As a dog owner, we must come to terms with the fact that their time with us is limited. While they may only be a part of our lives for a short while, we strive to give them the best possible life during their time with us. This belief is shared by Zach Skow, one of the founders of Marleys Mutts and Pawsitive Change Program. He came across a senior dog named Henry at a rescue shelter in Tehachapi, California. Henry was 16 years old, tired, had grey patches on his coat, and wasn’t as active as the other dogs at the shelter. Zach was deeply moved and knew he couldn’t bear the thought of Henry spending his last days in such a sad state. Without hesitation, he decided to adopt Henry in March, determined to help him experience new things and meet new people.
As a result of his advanced age, Henry experienced some difficulty with walking smoothly initially. However, much to everyone’s surprise, the adorable canine put in a lot of effort to harness his internal energy. Before long, Henry was seen darting and sprinting around Zach’s yard just like a young pup! His new dad was amazed at the transformation.
Henry, despite his age, battled a tough fight against testicular cancer during his stay at the shelter. However, he managed to overcome the condition after undergoing surgery. The canine’s determination to survive was truly remarkable.
Initially, Zach had doubts about Henry’s longevity and believed that the dog had only a few months left to live due to his age. However, much to Zach’s amazement, Henry continued to flourish with each passing day despite the odds being against him. Although Zach was overjoyed with Henry’s progress, he realized that he couldn’t keep him for much longer and set out to find him a permanent home. Zach’s ultimate aim was to ensure that this adorable pooch had the best years of his life. To Zach’s delight, Henry’s high spirits and lively personality made it easy for him to find a new home despite his advanced age. His new caretaker absolutely adores him and dotes on him every moment of the day. She even shares snippets of their activities on her Instagram account.
Even in his old age, Henry is still up for a stroll and basking in the sun. He loves the outdoors and is grateful for his loving family and massive online following. Henry’s life took a 180-degree turn when Zach rescued him from a shelter where he was neglected. Now, he is a cherished family member who receives all the love and attention he deserves.
