It’s common for animal shelters to quickly find homes for cute and cuddly puppies, but unfortunately, the same cannot be said for older dogs like Kane. This sweet Pitbull is still eagerly searching for his forever home.
Each year, more than 3.1 million dogs enter animal shelters in the United States. However, only about 2 million of them are able to find new homes and families. This leaves over 1.1 million dogs, especially those who are older or bigger, with a challenging task of finding someone to adopt them. Unfortunately, certain breeds like Pitbulls have a bad reputation due to irresponsible owners, making it even harder for them to find a loving home. For instance, when Kane, an 18-year-old Pittie, arrived at the shelter, his chances of being adopted were slim.
This furry friend was in need of a family that could take care of him properly due to his age. He had some health issues such as blindness in one eye, poor eyesight in the other, and severe arthritis, which required regular medical attention. Despite all of this, he deserved a loving home, although it was becoming increasingly difficult to manage his medical expenses as he got older. Carole Sandy, who took care of him as a foster parent, described him as a remarkable companion with a charming personality and a relaxed demeanor.
Carole and her team from the animal shelter showed exceptional dedication to advocating for Kane, a beloved senior dog. They shared his story on various social media platforms and reached out to news outlets to increase awareness about his situation. Their hard work finally paid off when Phil and Ewa Halverson, a compassionate family, learned about Kane’s predicament and contacted Carole. Kane was welcomed with open arms into their home, where he experienced love and care until his last days. The animal shelter’s unwavering commitment to Kane’s welfare ensured that he had a happy and serene end to his life.
