For the past 26 years, Jung Myoung Sook, a 61-year-old South Korean woman, has been devoted to rescuing dogs. Her efforts have led to her saving more than 200 pups and providing them with the necessary care. Despite not having much wealth, Sook’s dedication goes beyond simply taking care of strays. She also purchases dogs that would otherwise be sold in restaurants.
During an interview with the Associated Press, Sook mentioned that her kids are well-fed and enjoy the freedom to play and live their lives. Despite being criticized by some and called a “beggar-like middle-aged woman,” Jung remains dedicated to ensuring her children are fed and is happy and healthy.
Sook’s compassionate character has garnered support from many people, but unfortunately, she has had to move seven times due to noise complaints from neighbors. While South Korea is notorious for still consuming dogs as food, younger generations are embracing pets as companions more and more.
