Phil Foden has secured his spot in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year for the first time. His outstanding performances played a crucial role in Manchester City’s historic fourth consecutive Premier League victory. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday, where Foden was not only named in the team but also awarded the prestigious PFA Player of the Year title. Throughout last season, Foden showcased his talents by scoring a total of 19 goals in 27 league matches. One of his most memorable moments was netting a brace against West Ham on the final day, ultimately clinching the title for Man City. The Player of the Year recognition is determined by votes from fellow Premier League players, while the team of the year features the most popular choices. In addition to Foden, three of his Man City teammates have also made the cut. Erling Haaland, who won the golden boot with 27 goals last season, has been selected for the second consecutive year.
The PFA Premier League Team of the Year includes standout players such as Declan Rice, Ollie Watkins, David Raya, William Saliba, Gabriel Magalhaes, Phil Foden, Rodri, Martin Odegaard, Virgil van Dijk, Erling Haaland, and Kyle Walker.
Cole Palmer was honored with the PFA Young Player Of The Year title, despite not being included in the Team of the Year.
Erling Haaland and Virgil van Dijk were both named in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, showcasing their exceptional skills and contributions to their respective teams.
Foden, alongside his son Ronnie and partner Rebecca Cooke, was awarded Player of the Year. Rodri, a key player in midfield, also made it to the team for the second time. Kyle Walker, the right back and captain of Man City, has earned his fourth appearance after showcasing his skills in 47 matches across all competitions last season. Despite Arsenal finishing as Premier League runners-up, they have more players – five in total – included in the Team of the Year compared to champions Man City. The Gunners’ strong defensive performance is highlighted, having conceded only 29 goals last season. Goalkeeper David Raya, who secured the golden glove by keeping 16 clean sheets in the league, has made it to the team. He takes over from his teammate Aaron Ramsdale, who was the goalkeeper in last year’s selection. Arsenal’s defensive duo William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes have been recognized, with Saliba featuring for the second consecutive year for playing every minute of the Premier League season. Virgil van Dijk from Liverpool completes the defense, making his fourth selection alongside Walker, Saliba, and Gabriel. In midfield, two Arsenal stars, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard, have been chosen. Rice, following an impressive debut season at the club after a £105 million move from West Ham, joins the team along with Odegaard, who secures his second successive selection.
Erling Haaland has once again made the list this year for scoring an impressive 27 goals in the Premier League.
The selection of David Raya and William Saliba in the team was a result of Arsenal’s strong defensive performances.
Virgil van Dijk has once again been selected for the PFA Premier League Team of the Year, marking his fourth appearance in the prestigious lineup.
Following a strong performance that helped Aston Villa secure a fourth-place finish, Ollie Watkins has earned a spot in the forward position.
Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka wasn’t able to secure a spot in the team, despite having another successful season.
Chelsea’s Cole Palmer has been snubbed, despite the fact that he was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year title.
The reigning champions, Manchester City, boast four players in the lineup, with runners-up Arsenal closely following with five players making the cut. The dynamic duo of Foden and Haaland from Man City team up with Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins to lead the attack. Watkins, who notched up an impressive 19 goals and 16 assists, played a pivotal role in securing Aston Villa’s fourth-place finish and qualification for the Champions League. Unfortunately, this means there’s no room for Arsenal’s fan-favorite Bukayo Saka and Chelsea’s rising star Cole Palmer, despite Saka’s impressive tally of 16 goals and 9 assists throughout the season.
He emerged as Arsenal’s top goal scorer in the previous Premier League season, with only Odegaard surpassing his number of assists within the team. Despite being named PFA Young Player of the Year, Palmer did not make it into the starting eleven. Palmer, who made a significant impact during his debut season at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from Man City for £42.5m, scored 22 goals and provided 11 assists for his teammates despite Chelsea’s up-and-down season. The full lineup includes: Raya; Saliba, Van Dijk, Gabriel, Walker; Rodri, Rice, Odegaard; Foden, Haaland, Watkins.
